Penetration. Review The Bookwalker: Thief of Tales

Let’s talk a little. Did you ever want to get into your favorite or recently read book? I will give my answer on the basis of recently read books that those worlds are definitely not. And one of the scenarios of how the desire to exist in the real world shows Adventor – The Bookwalker: Thief of Tales.

Plot

The game begins with the arrival of the protagonist home – Etienne Quist. He has a frank mess in the apartment, there are no many things, in the department for mail, a letter indicating the conditions for serving some kind of punishment to remove writer’s handcuffs. The neighbors who do not open the doors add a little oddities. And then our first phone call is heard, where the main character is offered illegal work to remove the shackles. After all, it turns out Etienne Dali for 30 years of wearing handcuffs and during the period he cannot write new books, and writers usually become other people after 5 years of wearing and finish very poorly. Etienne agrees to 6 orders, after which he will become free. The essence of the work is to penetrate the books, take the subject from there and transfer it to a special suitcase, because in the real world items from books do not exist for a long time.

6 orders = 6 books. Each of the worlds is quite unique, two of which even thickly refer to real fictional universal.

I will give an example of the very first book. We need to steal the elixir of immortality. Diving into the book, Etienne is in a medieval prison cell. Slowly rummaging all the corners and a two-headed skeleton, we learn that some potion tested on the deceased. Further, with the help of some manipulations, we get into the room with an even larger number of cameras and bizarre experimental.

In order not to spoil, I will add that the whole plot is even a greater experiment and we can even influence its denouement.

There is nothing special to say about the global ENT, a couple of times the characters spoke about him and that’s it. About certain true writers who disappeared after a certain war. Such writers created everything only on their own, and not as now, where each written work is an alteration of the already existing. Also, after that war, the book police appeared, and people learned to penetrate the book worlds. Here is actually almost the entire ENT without taking into account a pair of proposals.

Summing up, I can say the main plot and local plots in books are fascinating. Together, all the elements of the narrative work and kept me to the very credits. However, if we consider each element (ENT, the main plot, narrative) separately, then they have a shallow study. The main plot and book worlds have been developed stronger, and even then not all. Weaker – ENT. Is it bad? Yes, I would not say, because it is stupid to demand from the project to be something else, and not. After all, thanks to how all this works together and it turned out such an original work.

Gameplay

Now I will scold the gameplay for a shallow elaboration, excuse me. In fact, all the gameplay takes place in book worlds with a view of the top and there is a subdeck in the form of walking around the real world from the 1st person.

In books you can: explore small locations, collect objects, craft them, talk with characters, sometimes hold combat meetings, interact with the environment.

In the real world: walk around the house, sometimes talk with characters, sometimes interact with the environment.

Actually, that’s all. There are not so many gameplay opportunities, and even then there are questions to some.

Only 1 question arose to the study of locations for passing. Why it was impossible to make in the game the highlighting of interactive objects? Not such a complex feature, but extremely comfortable. Because of her absence, I had to wander a couple of times in locations, but once because of it I was very stuck somewhere for half an hour, because an object that had never had to be interacted before was interactive. In general, the study is implemented at the level that the player simply moves in the plot, without any delights.

Collection of objects and craft. The biggest question for the whole game is for me to craft. Look, we travel through different worlds, where a different level of technology, culture, etc. D. However, in 5 out of 6 books, we are strat owned a constantly defined set of objects: scrap, master, nippers, jars with ink. Although it was possible to do that, depending on each world, objects changed and adjusted to the selected setting. You know what’s the joke? The developers did this only in one of the worlds.
